For most people, graduation is an exciting day, but my graduation day was not.

I remember that weekend two years ago. Family and friends had flown in from across the country to ??36? ?the celebration. But just like everyone else in my class, I had watched the?? 37? ?turn from bad to worse in my senior year. Almost all of us graduates had degrees, but very?? uncertain ??38? .

The weeks ahead weren’t ??39? . I knew my small university town couldn’t offer me any chances, ??40? ?I packed up my car and drove to Southern California to find work. But what I thought would take a ??41? ?became two, and then four, and 100 job applications later, I found myself in the exact same ??42? ?as I was before.

You know that feeling when you wake up in ??43? ? That feeling became a constant in my life. Days felt like weeks, weeks like months, and those many months felt like everlasting ??44? . And the most annoying part was no matter how much I tried, I just couldn’t seem to make any?? 45? .

So what did I do to keep my good sense? I decided to ??46? . Something about putting words on a page made everything seem a little clearer — a little brighter. Something about writing gave me ??47? . And if you want something badly enough, sometimes a little hope is all you?? 48? !

I put my ??49? ?into a children’s book. Beyond the River was the story of an unlikely hero, a little fish, who ??50? ?to give up his dream.

And then one day, without any sort of writing degree or contacts in the writing world — just a lot of hard work and determination — I was offered a ??51? ?contract (合同) for my first book! After that, things slowly began to fall into ??52? . I was offered a second book deal. Then, a few months later, I got an interview with the Walt Disney Company and was ??53? ?shortly after.

?Don’t give up. Even if things look ??54? ?now, don’t give up. If you work hard, things will always get better. Often times our dreams lie in waiting just a little further upstream ... all we need is the ??55? ?to push beyond the river.

LONDON ( Reuters)-- Ecotourism ( 生態旅游) is causing a lot of damage to wildlife and may be endangering the survival of the very animals people are flocking to see, according to researchers. Biologists and conservationists ( 自然環境保護論者) are worried because polar bears, dolphins, penguins and other creatures are getting stressed and losing weight and some are dying.

??? "Evidence is growing that many animals do not react well to tourists in their backyard,” New Scientist magazine said.

??? The immediate effects researchers have noticed are changes in behavior, heart rates, or stress hormone (荷爾蒙) levels but they fear it could get much worse and over the long term "could endanger the survival of the very wildlife they want to see".

??? Although money produced through ecotourism, which has been growing at about 10-30 per cent a year, has major benefits for poor countries and people living in rural areas, the Swiss-based World Conservation Union and some governments fear not all projects are audited (審查) and based on environmentally friendly policies, according to the magazine,

??? "The transmission(傳播) of disease to wildlife, or small changes to wildlife health through disturbance of daily life or increased stress levels, while not obvious to the casual observer, may translate to lower survival and breeding ,"said Philip Seddon of the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand.

Scientists have noticed that bottleneck dolphins along the northeastern coast of New Zealand become nervously excited when tourist boats arrive. Similar changes in behavior have been observed in polar bears and yellow-eyed penguins in areas visited by ecotourists are producing smaller babies.

??? Conservationists are now calling for more research into the effect of ecotourism on animals and say the industry must be developed carefully. They also want studies done before new ecotourism projects are started.

??? “The animals’ welfare should be very important because without them there will be no ecotourism,” said Rochelle Constantine of the University of Auckland in New Zealand.

59. What's the passage mainly about?

??? A. Many animals are dying because of lack of money.

??? B. There will be no ecotourism without animals.

??? C. Ecotourism could endanger the survival of the wildlife people want to see.

??? D. More research should be done on ecotourism.

60. We may learn from the passage that _________.

??? A. ecotourism must be developed properly

??? B. polar bears are losing weight without enough food

??? C. all the poor countries have stopped ecotourism

??? D. money produced through ecotourism should be spent on wildlife

61. What Rochelle Constantine said in the last paragraph implies that _______.

??? A. if people want to get high income, they must develop ecotourism

??? B. animals have rights to live their own life

??? C. animals are people’s good friends

D. people should take good care of wildlife

??? Sagorin and her family researched everything they could about the organization and bought more than a dozen books about the country.
??? Before her trip to India, Sagorin raised $3,500 to pay for her travel and living expenses, along with some to donate to the people she would work with in India.

Cloud-to-ground lightning bolts(閃電) are a common phenomenon—about 100 strike the Earth’s surface every single second—yet their power is extraordinary. Each bolt can contain up to one billion volts (伏特)of electricity.

This enormous electrical discharge is caused by an imbalance between positive and negative charges(電荷). During a storm, rain, ice, or snow increase this imbalance and often negatively charge the lower parts of storm clouds. Objects on the ground, like trees, and the Earth itself, become positively charged—creating an imbalance that nature seeks to correct by passing current(電流) between the two charges.???????

A step-like series of negative charges, called a stepped leader, works its way downward from the bottom of a storm cloud toward the Earth. Each of these ‘steps” is about 150 feet (46 meters) long. When the lowest step comes within 150 feet (46 meters) of a positively charged object,? it is met by a climbing surge(激增) of positive electricity, called a streamer, which can rise up through a building, a tree, or even a person. The process forms a channel through which electricity is transferred to lightning.

Some types of lightning, including the most common types, never leave the clouds but travel between differently charged areas within or between clouds. Other rare forms can cause extreme forest fires, volcanic eruptions, and snowstorms.

Lightning is extremely hot—a flash can heat the air around it to temperatures five times hotter than the sun’s surface. This heat causes surrounding air to rapidly expand and move, which creates the thunder we hear a short time after seeing a lightning flash.

Lightning is not only spectacular; it’s dangerous. About 2,000 people are killed worldwide by lightning each year. Hundreds more survive strikes but suffer from a variety of lasting symptoms, including memory loss, dizziness, weakness, numbness, and other life-altering illnesses

Lightning can strike as far as 10 miles from the area where it is raining. That’s about the distance you can hear thunder. If you can hear thunder, you are within striking distance. Seek safe shelter(藏身處) immediately.

Most lighting deaths and injuries occur in the summer. Where organized outdoor sports activities take place, leaders of outdoor events must stop the activities at the first roar of thunder to ensure everyone has time to get to a large building or enclosed vehicle. Once inside buildings, stay off phones, computers and other electrical equipment that put you in direct contact with electricity. Wait 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder, before going outside again.

Lighting is dangerous. With common sense, you can greatly increase your safety and the safety of those you are with.

Good afternoon, everyone!

The topic of my speech today is “Cooperate with others”.

In our daily life and study, if we want to accomplish our work efficiently, we must all learn to cooperate with others. Cooperation can save us a lot of time and energy. Additionally, we can learn much from our partners by cooperating with them.

When we cooperate with someone we like, we will feel very happy. We can share our pleasurejoysand sadnesssorrowswith him. But it challenges us to get along with others to cooperate with someone we dislikehate. Besides/Moreover/What’s more, we should focus on our work, instead ofrather thanour partners. Perhaps in working together with him for a long time, we’ll learnfind outthat he is a man to get along well with.

How can we become a good partner? In my opinion, we should try to listen to others. If they make mistakes, we also try to point them out. Thirdly, we mustn’t embarrass others to make them in unfavorable position.

Thank you for your listening!
